Steve Gray, CEO, shines a spotlight on the benefits of work-preparation courses such as Traineeships

There are many reasons to employ an apprentice, Apprenticeships offer a unique way to invest in young people and improve the sustainability of your business. However, one of the most common things we hear from employers is that they struggle finding young people straight from school, college or sixth forms who have employability skills which fit in with modern industry.

There has been a lot in the press about the Government’s push on Apprenticeships, yet very little is said about the courses on offer which will prepare learners for Apprenticeships and what benefits these can provide for employers. One such programme is a Traineeship.

Traineeships provide young people with CV writing tips, interview techniques, employability skills and the essential Maths and English training required to get an Apprenticeship or employment.

Combining functional skills learning with practical work experience, a trainee will learn new skills and gain a qualification whilst the business benefits from them contributing to productivity. Training providers deliver the Traineeships, which are funded by the government, with employers providing the valuable work experience placement and a final interview as part of the programme.

As well as changing a young person’s life, Traineeships are a fantastic way to fill Apprenticeship vacancies, thus developing a loyal, talented workforce.  The structured work experience aspect of the Traineeship allows companies to see if the trainee is a good fit with their business aims and culture and will get the opportunity to take them on as an Apprentice employee on completion of the programme.
