Training 2000 to launch Apprenticeship in Social Prescribing

Blackburn-based training provider, Training 2000, are launching a Level 3 Community Health and Wellbeing Worker Apprenticeship, also known as Social Prescribing, aimed at improving health and reducing inequalities in the community.

Social prescribing is a way of connecting people to non-medical activities, groups and support that can address unmet needs, and help people live the best lives they can. Community Health and Wellbeing Workers are a rapidly expanding workforce supporting the emphasis across government departments on improving the health of local people and communities by preventing poor health and tackling inequalities.

On completion of the Level 3 Apprenticeship, progression routes to Degree Level are available via Training 2000’s parent organisation, the University of Central Lancashire. The course could lead individuals on to a Speech and Language Therapy Degree, Physiotherapy Degree, or Occupational Therapy Degree.

This occupation is found in different organisations, including local government, the NHS, and other funders such as voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations.

Suzie Smith, Service Development Manager for Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Trust said “We know employing and developing people who bring a wealth of lived experience to our team helps us to develop more relatable and realistic wellbeing courses and opportunities at Recovery College, benefitting our communities whilst challenging the stigma of mental ill health and disabilities.

To offer this exciting new qualification through the Training 2000 Apprenticeship route means we’re able to develop a highly skilled workforce that complements the work of our clinical colleagues whilst attracting people to the many career routes available at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Trust and our wider Health and Social Care system”.
