Fire Emergency and Security Systems (CCTV) Technician
A Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician will be responsible for the planning, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of fire, or security systems (CCTV, intruder alarms and access control) equipment.
Their responsibilities include carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance, diagnosis of, and repairing faults on systems and their components. Installation of systems must be done in accordance to customer specification and requirements, industry regulations and company quality standards. They will initiate, own and complete processes, tasks and procedures, supporting wider team to deliver security and safety services. They are responsible for the correct use and maintenance of tools and equipment.

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above including English, Maths, Science and Technology is desirable.

Duration
3 years – x24 one week blocks
English and Maths
You will only need to complete English and Maths Functional Skills if you are unable to provide evidence of your GCSE qualifications or if your existing grades are just below the required entry requirements.
Apprentices who began their apprenticeship training when aged 19+ will no longer be subject to the mandatory requirement to study towards and achieve English and maths. However, for apprentices aged 19+, the apprentice or their employer can still choose for the apprentice to study towards an English and maths qualification.
The Functional Skills programme runs as an addition to the time you are already required to spend doing your off-the-job training. Following a thorough assessment process, we will select a learning plan suitable for you, which will be either 2-weeks full-time or 12-weeks (one day per-week) each for English and/or maths.
If a subject needs re-sitting, this will be additional time in the classroom on top of your learning plan.

Compliance, health & safety
Work in a safe manner, applying the systems, processes and organisational procedures used to ensure compliance with health and safety and other relevant legislation.
Industry standards
Work with designs, specifications and installation manuals to effectively comply with industry standards and ensure customer expectations have been fulfilled.
Planning
Plan and complete first fix cable runs using the correct methods of containment and protection.
Measurements
Use a range of meters to take measurements and interpret the readings against expected results.
Data protection
Use different types of data transmission ensuring its security is in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
Installations
Complete complex and non-complex installations of fire, access control, intruder alarm and video surveillance systems.
Diagnostics
Carry out and record diagnostic tests, maintain and service systems.
Commissioning and handover
Complete the commissioning and handover procedure of a system.
Documentation
Complete company approved documentation detailing corrective outcomes and produce all required paperwork to handover systems.
Programming and configuration
Carry out programming and configuration of all fire or security systems.
Testing
Isolate communication links to remote monitoring centres, testing links and reinstating.
End user training
Train users in the correct operation of their system.
At the end of your Apprenticeship you’ll go through an end-point assessment (EPA) and be graded a pass, merit or distinction based on a:

- Interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

Electrotechnical Certification Scheme
The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) accredits the qualifications and experience of workers in the electrotechnical industry. In the first year of your Apprenticeship you’ll get an ECS card.
