National Worldskills UK Final Beckons For Training 2000 Apprentices

Seven apprentices studying with Training 2000 are heading to Birmingham NEC to complete in the final of the coveted WorldSkills UK competition from 14-16 November.

The apprentices, who are studying finance and engineering qualifications, will join 800 of the country’s most talented learners at Birmingham NEC to compete in front of 100,000 visitors in 70 skills ranging from floristry to mechanical engineering.

After showcasing their technical and employability skills in earlier rounds, two teams of three will go head to head in the Accounting Technician category whilst an engineering apprentice will compete in the Mechanical CAD (Computer Aided Design) category.

The Blackburn AAT team, ‘Lancashire Hotpots’ comprises of 19-year-old Comply Direct employee Olivia Milligan, John Painter, 21, who works at Hindle, Jepson and Jennings Ltd and 24-year-old PM&M Solutions employee, Sarah Clancey. The Blackpool AAT team, which comprises 20-year-old Safehands Care employee Victoria Clark, Damon Rhodes, 24, who works at Danbro Accountants and 19-year-old Royal Blackburn Hospital employee, Emma Bowker are known as ‘Blackpool Rocks’.

Andrew Cartwright, aged 21, who works at Warrington-based Nuvia and is currently undertaking an Apprenticeship with Training 2000, is set to compete in the Mechanical CAD (Computer Aided Design) category.

The group demonstrated competence in their technical knowledge, which will be drawn upon in order to become the national winner.

Lianne Whittaker, business assurance coordinator at Training 2000, said: “Being invited to compete at The Skills Show 2013 is a fantastic achievement for the teams and it will give them the opportunity to showcase their skills and experience at a national level. The skills competition is a prestigious event and Training 2000 is thrilled to be able to support them all on their journey.”
