Fabrication and Welding Apprentice

This vacancy is for an Apprentice Fabricator/Welder based in Billington.

The broad purpose of the occupation is to carry out metal fabrication work using things such as rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plate and metal sheet etc.

Harrisons Engineering was established in 1970 by the Harrison family offering engineering services to quarrying and road stone industries. We have grown, developed, and diversified to suit changes in market requirements by forging long standing, secure relationships with our clients.

Based across two sites in Lancashire, we are central to the UK allowing easy nationwide coverage. Our workshops allow us to offer manufacture of new structures and off–site refurbishment works; our yards for storage and superstructure trial erections; our fleet of vehicles, plant & equipment also provide for installation, onsite regeneration, strengthening, servicing and maintenance works.

We are looking to recruit Apprentice Welder/Fabricators to join our team at our facility in Billington, Clitheroe, Lancashire starting Septemeber 2024.

  • Rate of pay: 6.56ph

Job Description:

  • Report to assigned mentor.
  • To train in the use of machinery / equipment under the direction of skilled and
    competent workers.
  • To work with one of the trained fabricator / welders on specific jobs for clients,
    learning to weld and fabricate steelwork to drawings as required.
  • Make known any suggestions for improvement regarding any aspects of the
    workplace conditions (Health and Safety) to mentor.
  • Be aware of the impact of ISO 9001 and BS1090 standards in terms of day–to–day
  • Ensure that the work area is always kept clean and tidy.
  • Carry out duties as requested by mentor.
  • Remove waste materials to the relevant waste handling services.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are safe for use and stored responsibly.

Apprentices are trained on all rules and procedures within the factory including all health and safety regulations.

Be aware of the importance of wearing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment i.e. Steel toe capped boots, glasses & ear protection.

Ensure that weekly timesheet is booked up correctly, signed and returned by Monday 0830am to the admin office.

Training to be provided

The apprentice will be working towards completing the Metal Fabricator Standard which will include the following:

  • L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • L3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • Functional skills in English, Maths and ICT (if not already achieved).
