This vacancy is for an Apprentice Machinist based in Nelson.
This rewarding career requires a broad skill set –math, mechanical design, interpreting technical drawings and programs, eye for detail – to properly transform a metal casting into a valuable working machined part.
Riggs has an outstanding and on–going commitment to its highly successful Advanced Modern Apprenticeship programme. We firmly believe that young people are the key to our on–going success and as such, this Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship Framework has been designed to develop the CMA through a combination of on the job training and further education to potentially work as a Skilled CNC Machinist within the Machine Shop. The Advanced Level 3 Framework consists of an extended level 3 NVQ supported with an appropriate certificate of academic achievement, done through attending College on a day release basis. The first year of the apprenticeship is spent at an agreed training provider off site.
The Role:
The CMA will work within this friendly company, who offer a pleasant but busy working environment. Throughout the apprenticeship the CMA will have the opportunity to work across varied departments within the organisation to assist in the development of their all round skills. Ultimately, this will allow the CMA to learn, develop and know how to put it all together and in the process derive self and work satisfaction from achieving weekly, monthly and yearly objectives and goals, and, become a fully time served CNC machinist with a flexibility that complements manufacturing requirements.
The main tasks of the role are outlined below:
- Adhere to all Riggs policies and procedures regarding Quality, H&S and the Employee Handbook.
- Adhere to all training providers policies / procedures during time spent in their establishments.
- Represent Riggs in an appropriate manner whilst at college and training providers. (Do not discredit the company by inappropriate actions / behaviours.
- Meet ALL expectations of the Apprenticeship Framework.
- Meet all targets set throughout the apprenticeship with regard to college work, assignments and CMA deadlines.
- Follow established training/development plans.
- Demonstrate commitment and diligence and learn and gain experience on all processes as laid down in the individual development plans to an acceptable standard.
- Use of visual display/display screen equipment work for data purposes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Riggs.
Training to be provided
L2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing (Foundation Competence).
L2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge).
L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competencies) Machining.
L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge).
