This vacancy is for a Mechatronics Engineering apprentice based in Whitefield, Manchester.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to undertake valuable work experience whilst gaining on the job qualifications.

The vacancy is an opportunity for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in Engineering. If successful the apprenticeship could consist of up to 4 years learning.

The first year will be based full time, Mon to Fri, at Training 2000 Ltd in the Engineering workshop where the apprentice will gain an insight into Engineering, and start to develop new skills relevant to the tasks they will be completing once they return to their respective employer. As well as this they will also begin their Further Education course, BTEC Diploma, City and Guilds, which will be 1 day a week classroom based learning.

Mechatronics Engineers ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost within High Value Manufacturing environments. Typically the work would cover a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on–going planned maintenance of complex automated equipment.
This requires the application of a complex blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.

You will learn to maintain and install mechanical equipment and restore components to a usable condition.

Electrical Maintenance entails maintenance, planned and emergency fault diagnosis, you will also learn to test and repair electrical equipment and circuits alongside carrying out inspections, fixing, repairing and maintaining machinery in an electrical aspect.

Purpose of the Role

To carry out planned maintenance work and repairs to production plant, equipment and buildings, to ensure safety and reliability of the production process.

Some of the Role Key Accountabilities (including but not limited to) are:
  • Continuous development of knowledge and familiarity with the engineering requirements of the bakery process systems and machinery
  • To work as an active part of a skilled cross functional planned maintenance team
  • To ensure correct Health & Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene standards are adhered to at all times
  • To ensure a fast and effective response especially under breakdown conditions
  • To quickly diagnose faults and take corrective action
  • To assist an support mechanical engineers with their duties
  • To actively participate in a Continuous Improvement culture throughout the site, constantly identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce waste.
  • To assist in the training of fellow maintenance engineers, Operator–Technicians and others where necessary
  • To ensure planned maintenance work is completed to strict schedules, and constantly look for improvements that will ensure reliability of equipment is improved
  • To ensure good working practices are adhered to throughout
  • To work on various projects including installation and modifications to plant and equipment.

Training to be provided
