This vacancy is for an Apprentice Assistant Accountant based in St Annes, Lancashire.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to undertake valuable work experience whilst gaining on the job qualifications.

We are looking for a trainee accountant to serve an apprenticeship. The role will involve learning all aspects of small business accounting including bank reconciliations, preparation of VAT returns and tax returns for both individuals and limited companies as well as completing profit and loss accounts and taking larger jobs to trial balance stage. On the job training will be provided and as you will note from the progress made by both Kieran and Josh this represents a tremendous opportunity.

Payroll administration to include:
  • Payroll processing for clients
  • Dealing with day–to–day queries arising from payroll
  • Ensuring up–to–date knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Backing up and updating payrolls when processed
  • Liaising with payroll clients as and when necessary
  • Processing paperwork from HMRC and other government bodies
  • Organising/filing payroll related paperwork
  • Working within the software system Pegasus.
Assisting the Accounts Department, to include:
  • Preparation of clients’ accounts
  • Preparation of clients’ self–assessment returns and partnership returns
  • Preparation of limited company accounts and submitting the same to Companies House and HMRC
  • Liaising with HMRC and VAT office as required
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Speaking directly with clients as necessary
  • Assisting with invoicing (in–house and external)
  • Assisting with purchase processing as required (in–house and external).
Supporting the business in the following general duties as and when required:
  • Daily banking/purchasing supplies as required
  • Photocopying, filing & scanning documents
  • Running errands in the local area
  • Relaying information to Clients/Colleagues as per their instructions
  • Undertaking training/updating knowledge as necessary to fulfill role
  • Ensuring all FOSB policies are adhered to
  • Ensuring that appropriate person is notified when stationery supplies are low
  • Helping to ensure that colleagues’ workloads are evenly spread
  • Answering the telephone
  • Making hot beverages for the team (including washing up of cups etc. as required)
  • Other ad hoc duties within the company as required.

Training to be provided

AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting L3 which contains:
  • Advanced bookkeeping
  • Final accounts preparation
  • Management accounting: costing
  • Indirect tax
If needed, three L2 modules will be included. These are:
  • Bookkeeping controls
  • Bookkeeping transactions
  • Using accounting software (Sage 50)
