Services to Schools and Connexions

FOR SCHOOLS AND CONNEXIONS STAFF

Employer Visits We will accompany young people on visits to local employers to highlight the skills required for specific jobs, the expectations of employers and give pupils an insight into different employment sectors.

Teachers/Connexions into Learning Providers There is a one day training programme for teachers and other professionals working with young people explaining Entry to Employment, Modern Apprenticeships and other Work Based Learning opportunities. The day includes a visit to meet a local employer and a young person at work, an update on the latest government initiatives for post 16 education and a selection of case studies of young people who have made a success of Work Based Learning.

Inset Days/Training Sessions Training 2000 will provide professional presentations on any aspect of post 16 training and training policy in Lancashire. The sessions are designed to update teachers'and connexions staff knowledge and understanding of current government funded initiatives.

Visits and Taster Days We will arrange for teachers and young people to visit our training centre where we have accredited as a Centre of Vocational Excellence in Engineering (COVE). Teachers,pupils and Connexions staff can spend a taster day, or part of a day at one of our workshops to find out first hand what we can offer young people.

Open Evenings Every Spring, we hold open evenings for young people, parents and teachers to visit our centre, see the facilities available and talk to our staff about our Entry to Employment and Modern Apprenticeship programmes. Visitors are also able to talk to employers who are recruiting Modern Apprentices as well as representatives from the Connexions Service and Learning and Skills Council Lancashire, who will be able to give valuable information and advice.

FOR SCHOOLS

Work Based Learning Presentations One of our Schools Liaison Officers will visit your school and give a professional PowerPoint presentation on Work Based Learning either during a PSE lesson, with small tutor groups or during assembly. A comprehensive workbook accompanies the session and we also provide pupils with informative literature.

Industry Day Experienced advisers are available to visit your school on Industry Days to work with groups of students.

Parents/Career Information Evenings We are happy to support these events with our exhibition stand and information literature and discuss with parents and pupils the various options available to them when leaving school.

Preperation for Work Days We will invite year 11 pupils to visit our training centre where they will spend a day covering various employability areas including interview techniques, application forms, preparing a CV and general help and tips preparing them for leaving school and starting work.

Lunchtime Clinics Our staff will visit your school and talk to pupils and staff interested in Work Based Learning on an informal basis to give them information on what the programme has to offer.

Vocational GCSEs In partnership with your school we will provide vocational GCSEs in Engineering, Applied Business and Applied ICT at our training centre for pupils in year's 10 and 11. We also have considerable experience in developing, assessing and integrating key skills into vocational programmes in the workplace.
