Description
Course content includes: - Aims of First Aid, hygiene and organs of the body - Causes of and treatment of asphyxia - Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation - Wounds and their treatment - Management and causes of unconsciousness - Fracture management - Dealing with burns - Dealing with foreign objects in the body - Sudden illness in the workplace - Legislation affecting first aiders in the workplace
Pre-Requisites
Valid First Aid at Work Certificate.
Target Group
Must have attended First Aid at Work course and certificate must not have expired. Where certificates have expired candidates will need to attend the 4 day course.
Aim
A 2 day course to refresh and update the knowledge and skills of existing first aiders in the workplace to enable them to provide first aid to the current Health and Safety Executive Standards within the working environment.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to:
- Describe what to do in an emergency
- Demonstrate an ability to carry out cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
- Demonstrate the control and treatment of bleeding
- Demonstrate the management of unconscious casualties
- Demonstrate an ability to deal with fractures
- State the action places for dealing with various types of burns
- List the procedures for dealing with foreign objects in the eye ear nose and throat
- State the procedures for dealing with sudden illness in the workplace
- List the principles involved when moving casualties
