Course content includes: - Aims of First Aid, hygiene and organs of the body - The respiratory system - Causes of and treatment of asphyxia - Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation - The circulatory system - Wounds and their treatment - The nervous system - Management and causes of unconsciousness - The Skeletal System - Fracture management - Causes of and Dealing with burns - Dealing with foreign objects in the body - Sudden illness in the workplace - Moving casualties - Legislation affecting first aiders in the workplace

None
Target Group
First aiders in the workplace requiring their first qualifying certificate or those who wish to renew their certificate over a 3 day course.
Aim
A 3 day course to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge/skills of first aid to enable them to provide first aid to the current Health and Safety Executive Standards within the working environment.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to:
- Describe what to do in an emergency
- Describe how the respiratory system works
- List the causes of asphyxia
- Demonstrate an ability to carry out cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
- Describe how the circulatory system works
- List the types of wounds
- Demonstrate the control and treatment of wounds
- State the causes of unconsciousness
- Demonstrate the management of unconscious casualties
- Demonstrate an ability to deal with fractures
- State the action places for dealing with various types of burns
- List the procedures for dealing with foreign objects in the eye ear nose and throat
- State the procedures for dealing with sudden illness in the workplace
- List the principles involved when moving casualties
- Describe the legislations affecting first aiders in the workplace
Assessment
Written multiple choice theory and practical assessment.
