New Directions
This is a work based learning option for 14 – 16 year olds who are unlikely to achieve their full potential in the classroom. New Directions provides an alternative to the curriculum for young people in years 9, 10 and 11. There are 2 different options:-
Work Placement - The extended work experience programme is designed to match young people with employers in their local area to enable them to develop valuable employability skills. Once your matched with a company you could be placed from 1 to 5 days per week. Your progress will be monitored and help will be available from one of our dedicated team if required.
Workshop Carousel - Learners join a group of up to 8 pupils for 2 hours per week in the Training 2000 workshop for a full academic year to cover topics such as Assembly, Bricklaying, Electronics, Engineering, Product Assembly, Motor Vehicle, Wallpapering and tiling. This can be tailored to suit your requirements. You will spend a number of weeks in each area and tasks are designed so that in each module you will create an end product which you can take away and also work towards NOCN Enabling Progression Units to gain an award in the first year and a certificate int he second year if you continue.
Year 11 Project - This is a 3 ½ day project run in conjunction with local schools providing an alternative curriculum for year 11 pupils. The programme offers a combination of basic skills, personal and social development and a work placement for the learner. You will undertake a variety of qualifications at the appropriate level which may include Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT, an award in Citizenship, Health and Safety at Work Level 1 and Food Hygiene at Level 2. A Connexions advisor will also visit per month to enhance career prospects and offer additional support if needed.
