Robert, 19, from Clitheroe has engineered himself a top career through an Apprenticeship at Hanson Cement delivered by Lancashire based training provider Training 2000.
When leaving school Robert realised he wanted to learn a trade whilst studying for an academic qualification, as opposed to the traditional route of going to college and gaining A Levels. Robert started his apprenticeship in 2007 and is presently in his 3rd year of his Engineering programme. Robert is currently part of the busy electrical maintenance team at Hanson Cement carrying out the day to day maintenance of the production equipment and services.
After researching the potential Apprenticeships that would most suit his strengths and interests, Robert chose the electrical apprenticeship due to his interest and success in his electronics GCSE where he achieved a grade A, he also enjoys the practical aspect of working with his hands.
Robert comments: “The apprentice programme really suited me well as I have always been very hands on. The Training 2000 apprenticeship programme is well structured with regular help and support from my Career Development Adviser. I am currently working towards my HNC in Electrical Engineering and would like to progress onto my HND as this will open more opportunities for me later in life”
Wayne Ramsbottom, Career Development Adviser at Training 2000 comments: “Robert has done extremely well throughout his time at Training 2000, he is extremely conscientious and hardworking and always exceeds targets which are set for him, his self motivation and eagerness to succeed is a sign that he will do well after his Apprenticeship”.
The Apprenticeship programme is co-funded with the European Union European Social Fund (ESF).
