Fergus Glad He Counted on Accountancy Apprenticeship

Nineteen-year-old Fergus, from Lancaster, has successfully started out on his accountancy career through a Training 2000 supported apprenticeship.

The AAT course provides an industry recognised, hands-on qualification which strengthens the key skills necessary for a successful career in accountancy.

Open to those looking for their first accountancy role, or looking to strengthen and formalise the skills they already have, AAT is a great move for anyone passionate about quality, results driven accounting.

Whilst studying, Fergus is gaining important work experience through his role at accountancy firm Towers + Gornall and since starting on the AAT qualification in September 2014, Fergus has found that the knowledge and skills he has developed are benefitting him in the workplace – in a career which suited him having already enjoyed numbers and logic, important factors in any accounting role.

Fergus added:

“The qualification is increasing what I am able to do at work, which is of course increasing my value to the company.  When fully qualified I hope to continue with a job in this field.”

Choosing an apprenticeship instead of a studying for a degree was mainly due to the opportunity that it provided for learning whilst in the workplace, with Fergus saying, “It’s far better to be able to learn from professionals and work in the environment every day.”

Fergus’ line manager Stephen Foster said, “It has been really exciting to watch Fergus develop and grow throughout his time with us at Towers + Gornall.

“Both Fergus and the business overall have benefitted from the hard work he is putting in to the AAT course – bringing these new skills and ideas directly into the workplace.”
