Caroline – Accountancy

Twenty-two-year-old Caroline is getting closer to fulfilling her career aspirations with the help of Training 2000.

Caroline, from Preston, is currently a Higher Apprentice at Rosy Apple Childcare in Avenham, Preston and left school at the age of 16 to pursue a college BTEC course in childcare. After a year of study, she decided that classroom-based work was not for her and started applying for jobs.

She went on to secure a position at Rosy Apple Childcare, where she has completed a raft of qualifications.

Caroline is currently working towards a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Accounting, a qualification which is the equivalent of the first year on a university degree course and is accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians.

“I really didn’t enjoy the classroom environment, so after one year at college I decided to find a job”, said Caroline. “Rosy Apple Childcare had a vacancy in the administration department, and offered me the position as well as the opportunity of an Apprenticeship. It feels great to be working on my Level 4.

“I would definitely recommend Apprenticeships; I am able to learn in a working environment whilst earning money. I go to college two nights a week for the theory elements of my course, which also ensure that I am up-to-date with all the developments in the sector, which I can pass on to my employer.”

Rosy Apple Childcare, trading as Little Achievers Nurseries, was founded by managing director Sharon Alexander in 2003. Sharon, who is a National Apprenticeship Service ambassador, now operate six nurseries across Lancashire and speaks very highly of Caroline’s performance and attitude: “Caroline has been an exemplary apprentice. Since starting with Rosy Apple Childcare, her confidence has been boosted enormously, and she now has a solid foundation of qualifications under her belt.

“Over 60 per cent of our 90 members of staff started here as an apprentice, and many progress into further learning. Recruiting apprentices is great for business, they bring with them up-to-date knowledge, the recruitment cost is low and you have members of staff that are highly productive and skilled.”
