David joined Training 2000 in 2019, as the Head of Operations and Learning and is proud to hold this position and is committed to ensuring that we are successful at Training 2000.
David joined the commercial sector with a Blackburn based Fire & Security company 17 years ago after a career with the Royal Navy spanning 22 years. After his Royal Navy Apprenticeship he served as a Weapon Engineering Artificer in a variety of increasingly senior roles both on shore and at sea on Destroyers and Aircraft Carriers, both before, during and after the Falklands conflict of 1982 and later Nuclear Submarines (Polaris and Trident). After his last two roles in Trident systems training and 2nd/3rd Level Submarine support, he left the Navy in 2001.
In 2002 David became the Initial Fire & Security, UK Training & Development Manager with responsibilities for a national team of trainers providing training across Advanced Apprenticeships, Security & Fire Engineering, H&S, Sales , Design & technical course programmes. After the acquisition by UTC and the integration with Chubb in 2008, he became Head of Learning and Development for the UK&I in 2009.
In 2015 David became Head of Skills Development for UTC Buildings & Industrial Systems as a member of the Talent, Learning & Development mgt team within the UKI HR Shared Services group with responsibility across Carrier, Chubb and OTIS brands. During his time with UTC David gained national and international experience and success in business change & transformation, HR & Talent shared services set up, business integration and centralisation of services, process robustness, and Lean/Kaizen/Agile led continuous improvement initiatives.
David joined Alstom Transport in October 2016 to Head up a brand new Academy as part of a £23m Widnes centre of excellence and modernisation facility where he led and was responsible for the business strategy and operational planning, oversaw the build and fit out, built the team & re-organised existing training teams across the UK & I, project managed the ITC systems implementation, curriculum and QMS design, awarding body accreditations, successful RoATP applications, apprenticeship levy & commercial revenue and the roll out of both Apprenticeship and commercially available CPD quality training to the Rail sector and its supply chain.
David has had significant voluntary involvement previously as: Member of NSAR Training alliance & quality groups, Chair of the Skills for Security – SCG, Member and Vice Chair of the Fire & Security Systems Apprenticeship Trailblazer, member of GTA England Employer Advisory Group, Apprenticeships Ambassador and NAS Regional/National Awards Judge, member of Lancs WBL Exec Forum and NWPN and School Governor.
David has a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management (Manchester Metropolitan University) and is a Chartered CIPD member.
In his spare time David enjoys Networking, Genealogy, Leisure cycling and family time.
